Op Attention, North Yorkshires response to the NPCC Christmas Drink & Drug drive campaign began on Saturday 1st December.
During the first week 01/12 to 07/12 inclusive, there have been a total of 31 arrests for drink and drug driving across the county and City of York. This represents a significant increase on last year’s figures where there were 21 arrests in the same period (a representative 47% increase in arrests).
Of those arrested so far, 28 were male and 3 female and 14 arrests were related to drug driving with 17 related to drink driving, The average reading of those providing evidential breath specimens so far is 66ug/100ml almost twice the legal limit. Interestingly this year only 2 of the arrests so far have involved a driver involved in a collision representing a 50% reduction on the same period last year where there were 4 arrests following collisions.
A total of 9 offenders have been charged to court with the first court appearance currently scheduled for 20/12/18.
Officers are continuing to work pro-actively with enhanced checks planned for every day through until 1st January.
